Al Owais inaugurates event featuring 30 world leading calligraphers
Dubai: Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, opened the Second Ramadan Forum for Quran Calligraphy. The event, which is being organised by the Ministry, will run for three days at the Park Hyatt Hotel, Dubai.
Thirty of the world’s leading Arabic calligraphers, drawn from across the Arab and Islamic world, are participating in the event, which will see them inscribe a complete copy of the Holy Quran over the three days.
“Through these initiatives, the Ministry aims to support the cultural, creative and artistic elements in our society,” said Al Owais. “We aim to keep alive the grand tradition of Arabic calligraphy and emphasise its links with the Islamic religion.
“The UAE is proud to host such an event and we continue to organise such events at governmental and domestic levels, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan, when we celebrate the receiving of the Holy Quran,” Al Owais added.
The Ramadan Forum is only the second such gathering of calligraphers apart from an event in Turkey. The UAE’s efforts in promoting the social, cultural, artistic and religious values of society has made it a leading player on the Arabic and international cultural front.
